It’s three days until a terrifyingly important presidential Election. But as a Californian, your vote won’t affect who wins.
At this point, we don’t know who Americans in seven swing states will choose as the next U.S. president. We don’t know if one candidate will attempt to overturn the results if he loses (like he did in 2021). We don’t know whether the U.S. Supreme Court will intervene and choose the next president themselves (like they did in 2000).
What we do know is that Californians deserve better than this.
This February, with your financial support, the Independent California Institute commissioned a historic poll on California Independence. We found, for the first time ever:
A clear majority of Californians believe we’d be better off if California peacefully seceded from the U.S.
A supermajority of Californians believe we’d be better off if California negotiated special autonomous status within the U.S.
Support for independence is sky-high among Democrats, the dominant political party in California
The poll made a big splash in the news. Two statewide syndicated columns covered us, as did Newsweek (twice!). More recently, I was invited to write an article for Democracy Local explaining in detail why Californians might want more autonomy from the U.S. and how we can get it.
We also released all the raw data from the poll, so you or anyone else is free to do their own research.
We think it’s about time for another poll. For two reasons:
First, the public needs to know if anything about this chaotic, disturbing election has further shifted Californians’ attitudes toward independence.
Second, if the worst happens, and an anti-California wannabe dictator takes the Oval Office, California’s elected officials will need to know how Californians want them to respond.
Can we count on you to help make the second Independent California Poll happen?
It costs $12 to poll one Californian, and we need to poll at least 500 people. A donation of any size will help, and it can be one-time or monthly.
Thank you! Here’s to a brighter, freer, more democratic future for every Californian.
